Crash Rated Gates
Some gates may look imposing, but they mainly act to prevent human entry and dissuade drivers from trying to ram the gates. Crash-rated gates go a step further by actually preventing a vehicle from penetrating the fence line. These gates have been designed and tested to stop moving vehicles.

K4-Rated Gates
K4-rated gates add a level to assurance to facility by stating how effective they’ll be against crash vehicles. A K4 rating means the gate will stop a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling at 30 miles per hour. The rating also shows that the gate has met standards established by the State Department.

K8-Rated Gates
Ideally, facilities will have measures to slow down vehicles attempting ram their gates. If these measures can reduce crash vehicle speed to 40 miles per hour, a K8-rated gate can do the rest. Designed and tested to meet State Department standards, a K8-rated gate will stop a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling at that speed.

K12-Rated Gates
The strongest of all K-rated gates, a K12-rated gate will stop a 15,000-pound vehicle moving at 50 miles per hour. Even if other speed-reducing measures fail or are impossible to implement, a K12-rated gate will work. Its rating meets State Department standards and the gate has been tested to ensure its performance.

K-Rated Gates
To ensure protection of its facilities, the State Department established specifications for the fence gates its contractors manufactured. These specifications became industry standards, and now, any organization can obtain the same level of security for its facilities. The standards or K ratings designate the top speed at which the gate will stop a 15,000-pound vehicle.
